Today I started to think about the books that I'm going to take with me on hols. Just to clarify, the whole point of this holiday is to completely kick-back and relax, so I anticipate much time for reading. However, I am now worried that I haven't given enough thought to which reading material to take along with me. The horror of getting it wrong is too much to bear!
So, the first thing to ask is how relaxed do I want to be. Body only, or body and mind? It's a pertinent question because if the answer is body and mind, then I don't want to be taking War and Peace and I may instead be open to the idea of Marian Keyes (but please please don't tell anybody and even if you did I'd deny it).
This could be the perfect opportunity for me to catch up on the classics that I've never read (there are an embarrassingly enormous amount but just to give you an idea of what I'm thinking) Room with a View, Jane Eyre, The Catcher in the Rye, a little light Dostoevsky, or maybe the chance to brush up on some history, or read some autobiographies, or learn some more Spanish, or take in A Brief History of Time (actually have read that one!). The possibilities are endless and the pressure to get it right is enormous. If I was to say that my holiday lives or dies on the choice of books that I take then that would be entirely over-the-top in a dramatic way that only my mother could carry off so I won't go that far, but it's important!
Anyway. Just to ensure I actually do use the time to at least tick one or two books off the list of things to read in life, I am posting this so I am pressured then at some point to post what I did actually read.
Three more sleeps then I'm off...
